We living and working in Dorset & Hampshire

We have been in business since 1986 and have travelled to all corners of the British Isles, mainly to install voice and data networks but also to resolve complex IT and security issues for our wonderful clients, including an overnight round trip to Glasgow to fix a broken PC that just needed plugging in!

They say that home is where the heart is, well our home is right on the border between Dorset and Hampshire and so we love both, from quaint and quiet villages and the peaceful New Forest to the historic docks and the busy towns and cities all right here on our doorstep including Mappowder.

We always like to use small local businesses rather than large national and international companies where we can, and encourage others to do the same, the benefits are manyfold, with some obvious but many you may not have really thought about.

Mappowder is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. The parish lies approximately 9 miles (14 kilometres) southeast of the town of Sherborne and covers about 1,900 acres (770 hectares) at an elevation of 75 to 160 metres (250 to 520 feet). It is sited on Corallian limestone soil at the southern edge of the Blackmore Vale, close to the northern scarp face of the Dorset Downs. In the 2011 census the parish had 71 dwellings, 69 households and a population of 166.

The village name comes from mapuldor, Old English for 'maple tree'. In 1086 in the Domesday Book Mappowder was recorded as Mapledre and appears in four entries; it was in Buckland Newton Hundred, had 33.3 households and a total taxable value of 8.3 geld units.

The church, dedicated to St Peter & St Paul, is Perpendicular and was built in the late 15th and 16th centuries. However, it includes features remaining from an earlier 12th-century church. The chancel was extended in 1868 by the Wingfield Digby family of Sherborne Castle, who owned the village in Victorian times.

The grass airfield of Compton Abbas (247 metres ASL) is 2 km to the SE of the village.

In 1086 Melbury Abbas was recorded in the Domesday Book as Meleberie.

The population of Moor Crichel started out in 1801 at 268 and then decreased slightly to 267 by 1821. After this brief period of decreasing population, the area experienced a fairly rapid increase to 374 in 1851. At this point, the population fell slightly again to 367 in 1881 only to once again experience a rapid increase to 407 in 1891 which remains to be the highest population that Moor Crichel has had to date. After this, Moor Crichel's population began to fall again until 1921 when it became fairly constant at around 255 until 1961. In more recent years, the population of Moor Crichel experienced a small rise in 2001 to 262. However, in 2011 the population fell again to around 246.

The track on the opposite bank leads on to a second ford, still intact, across the Leaden Stour. This is known locally as Pansy's Bathing Place, named after the golden retriever of Dr and Mrs James Fisher, who have lived in Throop (in Throop House and latterly in Throop Mill Cottage) since 1959. Pansy loved swimming in this ford.

Throop is part of the Muscliff and Strouden Park ward for elections to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council which elect three councillors. As of 2021, the three elected councillors are Derek Borthwick (Conservative), Kieron Wilson (Independent) and Lisa Northover (Independent).
